Friends of the Library will hold their 15th Annual General Meeting Thurs, Nov 16th 7pm.
In addition to a short re-cap of our activities over the last year, author and songwriter, Phil Jenkins will regale us with The Flowing Past: The Rideau Canal in 1867 and 2017. It will be a ‘bifocal’ look at the canal system that borders North Grenville and bisects Ottawa, 150 years apart. Phil’s articles have appeared in National Geographic Traveler, Equinox, Wedding Bells, Canadian Geographic, Ottawa Magazine, and Toronto Life. His books include the national non-fiction bestsellers Fields of Vision, An Acre of Time, River Song: Sailing the History of the St. Lawrence, and, Beneath My Feet: The Memoirs of George Mercer Dawson. There have also been two commissioned books on the Ottawa Public Library and the Civic Heart Institute.
Star of the Library award will be presented to Cheryl Mackie, owner and manager of the Brigadoon Restaurant in Oxford Mills, in recognition of her four fund-raising dinners and wine tastings on behalf of the Friends!
