Musical Instrument Lending Library

ANNOUNCEMENT! We'd be closing on Friday 24th Feb. 2022 due to the snowstorm.

Now Open!

The Musical Instrument Lending Library (MILL) is now open Saturdays, 10am – 2pm.

Music Trivia Night

Join us for a fun-filled evening of music trivia… with a twist.

The twist? All the music will be played LIVE with musical instruments from the North Grenville Musical Instrument Lending Library (MILL).

Proceeds from this event will support the ongoing operations and programs at the MILL and enable us to continue to provide free access to musical instruments to residents of North Grenville, Merrickville Wolford, and Edwardsburgh Cardinal.

Please note that we will not be selling tickets at the door – advance tickets only.
Participants are encouraged to bring their friends in teams of up to six (6) people. Prizes will be available for the top scoring team, with additional smaller prizes throughout the evening. Snacks provided. Cash bar (alcoholic and non-alcoholic options).

Thank you to J.A.M. Productions for being a sponsor of this event.

MILL FAQs

What is a Musical Instrument Lending Library (MILL)?

A Musical Instrument Lending Library (MILL) is exactly the same as a typical library, but instead of lending books, we lend musical instruments!

MILLs provides musical instruments on loan to members, especially children and youth, in order to support accessible music education and build life skills through the love and practice of music. There are many MILLs in Ontario and many of them are associated with public libraries.

Where is the MILL?

The MILL is located in the W.B. George Centre on the Kemptville Campus (48 Shearer St., Kemptville, ON).

How can I borrow instruments from the MILL?

Anyone with a North Grenville Public Library card in good standing can borrow instruments from the Musical Instrument Lending Library.

Don’t have a library card? You can sign up here.

How much does it cost to borrow instruments from the MILL?

It’s free!

Seriously.

Although there are fees for long overdue instruments, so please be sure to return your instrument on or before its due date.

Can I reserve a musical instrument?

Unfortunately, no. Instruments are first come, first served. Don’t worry though, we have over 80 instruments to lend!

Can I donate to the MILL?

We are currently accepting donations of musical instruments. Please contact Kelvin, klee@ngpl.ca or 613-258-4711, prior to dropping off your instrument.

In particular, we are looking for donations of

  • electric keyboards (88 keys)
  • banjos and mandolins
  • brass instruments

At this time, we are unable to accept donations of

  • pianos: acoustic or electric
  • used harmonicas

We are also accepting instruments not listed above. For any instruments you would like to donate, please contact Kelvin, klee@ngpl.ca. All instruments donated are subject to the Library’s policy on Gift Acceptance.

If you wish to make a financial donation to help support the MILL (thank you!), you may do so on our CanadaHelps Page.

I'd like to get involved with the MILL. How can I help?

We welcome volunteers and donors to support the MILL. Thank you!

To volunteer, please complete our Volunteer Application and return it to the Library (in-person or via email: info@ngpl.ca).

If you wish to make a financial donation to help support the MILL (thank you!), you may do so on our CanadaHelps Page.
